Wendy Strgar, founder and CEO of the Eugene natural sexual health products company Good Clean Love, comes off as a pretty candid person.

She talks frankly about female sexual dysfunction, personal lubricants and how all-natural “love products” saved her marriage of 24 years.

Strgar also makes no bones about her business savvy.

“There is really a basic amount of business knowledge you need to play the game at all,” she says. “That’s not me.”

Her candor, however, along with a pretty compelling business case for all-natural intimacy products in a $500 million-a-year market space, helped Strgar nab a $165,000 investment prize at this year’s Willamette Angel Conference in Eugene.

Strgar founded Good Clean Love as a cottage industry in her kitchen in 2003. Her idea was to offer all-natural and organic oils, lotions and lubricants as an alternative to the petrochemical-based options on the market.

Today, Good Clean Love employs five, rings up annual sales of around $250,000 and has its products in specialty shops as well as stores like Whole Foods and Fred Meyer.

Strgar says the WAC prize will help the company broaden its market and build the brand. She also hopes to hire a new CEO this summer and solidify some other investments that came as a result of the conference. The company’s current plan projects revenues of nearly $5 million with a total investment of $500,000.

“It’s going to be an exciting ride,” Strgar says.
