Cannon Beach is getting closer to acquiring 800 acres in the Ecola Creek watershed east of the city.

The commissioners unanimously approved a proposed trade of the Ecola watershed property owned by the Oregon Department of Forestry for 721 acres owned by Hampton Affiliates. The Hampton properties are in several locations throughout Clatsop County.

Now that the commission has approved the acquisition, city officials expect to be able to sign a letter of intent with the forestry department to make the trade. The letter of intent, however, doesn’t mean that the trade is final; the board of forestry must make that decision.
