Banker keeps it in the family


Growing up in the banking business helped an Oregon woman launch Summit Bank.

Ann Marie Mehlum was raised in the banking business; her father launched what is now Siuslaw Bank. She eventually led a group of investors that opened Summit Bank in 2004.

There seemed to be an expectation among many people that she would remain at Siuslaw and take over the reins when her father retired. But with Johan Mehlum still enjoying his career and his daughter ready for a challenge of her own, the stage was set.

Ann Marie Mehlum was at the helm as a group of local investors raised $10 million in capital five years ago and opened Summit Bank. It was Eugene’s first start-up bank in more than 25 years.
