Central Oregon continues adding to its business community with the announcement of Oregon Dental Services’ plan to open a satellite office and dental-hygiene school. The Portland-based health insurance and dental service provider purchased an undeveloped site in the Old Mill District that will become home to a multistory building of about 90,000 square feet. ODS plans to have about 120 employees at the Bend location, along with a small class of students at the dental hygiene school. Alan Shoebridge, an ODS spokesman, says the company had been looking to expand its presence in Central Oregon. After a failed attempt to build in Redmond, Bend was the logical place to go, he says. Construction on the new site will begin in July.

Patients no longer have to make a three-hour trip to Portland for heart treatments now that a new heart center has opened its doors in Bend. The $24.6 million facility boasts 70,000 square feet of space designed for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. The Heart Center houses a cardiology department, Heart Center Cardiology, a combination of The Cardiology Group and Cascade Healthcare Community, as well as two cardiothoracic surgeons. It will also house the first pediatric heart center in Central Oregon. The institute is a part of the St. Charles Medical Center.
