PORTLAND — The sun has been setting on the 939th Air Refueling Wing for more than a year but, similar to Daylight Savings Time, the move sprang ahead a bit. Instead of closing at the end of September 2010, Air Force Reserve Command officials announced the wing would close in June 2008. In the meantime, a second reduction in force means 340 employees have to start looking for new jobs sooner than previously expected. In 2006, Portland’s Air Force Reserve wing relocated all eight of its KC-135 refueling aircraft in conjunction with the Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s order of November 2005.
