Schools denied reserves

Gov. Ted Kulongoski used his veto power to reverse the decision of Oregon’s Legislature to use state reserves for schools. The Senate may now attempt to override the governor’s veto.

The Senate may attempt an override today of Tuesday’s veto of a state school budget that Gov. Ted Kulongoski believes draws too much from the state’s reserves.

As promised, Kulongoski said Tuesday lawmakers ought to delay a decision on more money for the 2010-11 school year until they return for a special session early next year.
