Real estate transactions in Jackson County are running nearly even with last year, but prices continued to edge downward during the last three months. While the tail end of first-time buyer tax credits boosted sales in early 2010, 4 percent mortgage rates have sustained the new normal activity in 2011.

Heading into the final month of the year, Jackson County residential home sales are just off 2010’s pace.

Southern Oregon Multiple Listing Service reported 10 fewer existing houses in Jackson County exchanged hands between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30, compared to last year, while four more new houses were sold during that period.

After absorbing big jolts from 2007 through 2009, the county’s existing home prices slipped just 5 percent during the past three months, with the median falling to $151,000 from $159,000 in 2010.
