Walmart plans to open two new stores in Lake Oswego and West Linn by early 2013, a company spokesman said.

Finalizing building designs, facility permits and renovation plans are just some of the details in need of ironing out before customers are able to set foot into the planned Wal-Mart Markets, said Steven Restivo.

A former Bales marketplace at 19133 Willamette Dr. in West Linn and a former Wild Oats Natural Marketplace at 17711 Jean Way in Lake Oswego are the planned sites. Permit applications have already been approved by West Linn and building renovations are still planned to begin before the end of the year. Applications for the other location are still under review by Lake Oswego planning and building staff.

“People want more affordable grocery options and that’s what we intend to bring to these areas,” said Restivo on Thursday. “These two stores will be a magnet for growth and development.”
