Onetime Portland-based Jive Software wants to raise $100 million in an initial public stock offering, some of which will benefit Oregon.

Though Jive’s headquarters have left, the company still has 160 employees in downtown Portland — including some top executives. A lucrative IPO could bring a share of Jive’s wealth back to Oregon. 

But many companies file for IPOs, then never sell stock to the public. Some are sold, and observers have long speculated that Jive is quietly positioning itself to become part of a larger corporation.
