17 Oregon legislators are traveling with their family members to China for a two-week trade and goodwill mission.

“It’s the largest one that we’ve ever had, actually,” said Rep. Dennis Richardson, R-Central Point, who has organized lawmakers on China expeditions for the past nine years.

The delegation includes 10 Republicans and seven Democrats. Two are in the Senate and the rest in the House.

Once the delegation makes it to mainland China, the Chinese government has offered to pick up the entire tab of food, lodging and in-country air travel.

“A couple of years ago, the Chinese government realized that in Oregon legislators are part-time,” don’t make much money and take time away from jobs and vacations to go to China, Richardson said. “So they expressed a sincere appreciation” and offered to cover costs for the entire delegation while in the People’s Republic.
