The House passes a bill to expand health insurance, raise taxes.

Monday’s vote on House Bill 2116 split legislators along party lines, but it passed with 60% approval. The bill would extend insurance coverage to 115,000 more Oregonians by raising taxes on hospitals and insurers.

The Oregon House voted 36-24 Monday for the bill that contains the taxes, which are endorsed by the hospitals and were not opposed by insurers. All Democrats voted for it and all Republicans against it.

House Bill 2116, which won the exact 60 percent majority required for revenue-raising measures, moves to the Senate.
