Home prices in 13 major U.S. cities have risen due to an annual boost in spring buyers.

Though it is the first time prices have risen in eight months, the increase was so slight that it doesn’t actually herald very good news.

 

Prices rose in 13 of the 20 cities tracked by the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home-price index, according to the April report released Tuesday. Washington, D.C., saw the biggest price increases, followed by San Francisco, Atlanta and Seattle.

Portland’s increase was slight, just 0.1 percent and overall home prices were still down 9.2 percent from a year ago.
