Adventist Medical Center expands its cardiac care.

Since it moved to east Portland 32 years ago, Adventist Medical Center has been treating a growing number of patients. More heart attack victims have passed through Adventist’s rooms than at other well known area hospitals. Thus the hospital’s expansion, which opened last month.

Since 1990, Portland’s population has grown by about 25 percent and urbanized east Multnomah County. Central-city housing prices shot up and east Portland became home to more poor and older Portlanders, who are prone to illnesses including heart disease, the nation’s No.1 killer.

Today, “Adventist is geographically situated right in the middle of our cardiac corridor,” said Dr. John Jui, medical director for Multnomah County Emergency Medical Services.
