TriMet saw record ridership on its rail lines in April, due to high gas prices and a recovering job market.

The transit agency recorded 8.7 million trips, up over 2% from April 2010.

 

“Overall, weekly ridership was above two million for the first time since October 2008,” said TriMet spokeswoman Mary Fetsch.  

Of course, October 2008 was when the global recession started to sink in and transit use  began to slide.
