Oregon state workers are worrying about potential pay and benefit cuts being discussed for the coming biennium.

Gov. John Kitzhaber has called for cuts to close a $3.5 billion budget shortfall, including furlough days and no pay increases.

“It’s going to be a disaster. I don’t know what else to call it,” said [Carrie] Everett, a single mother who works for the Department of Environmental Quality.

As contract negotiations drag on, uncertainty continues to mount over exactly how much take-home pay will be lost to these sort of concessions.
