Fred Meyer Jewelers Inc. became the second retailer in the world to be certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

Fred Meyer Jewelers Inc. became the second retailer in the world to be certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

The wholly-owned subsidiary of Portland-based Fred Meyer Stores Inc. also goes by the name Littman Jewelers.

The Responsible Jewellery Council’s stated mission is advancing “responsible ethical, social and environmental practices” throughout the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain, “from mine to retail.”

Peter Engel, president of Fred Meyer Jewelers and Littman Jewelers said in a statement, “Safeguarding consumer confidence in jewelry products in the United States and worldwide ensures the continued success of our entire industry.”
