Gerber Legendary Blades is seeing high early sales of its Bear Grylls line of products, and expects to launch another group of knives in October.

Grylls, of the Discovery Channel’s “Man vs. Wild” fame, is a great partner for the Tigard company, Gerber representatives say.

And with last night’s season six premiere of “Man Vs. Wild,” sales are expected to really take off, said Jason Michelotti,senior brand manager for Gerber. For the first time, Grylls was expected to be using the centerpiece product of the “Survival” line: the “Ultimate Knife,” with its distinctive orange markings and “BG” logo.

A select group of retailers got a taste of consumer demand for the first product in the Bear Grylls line – the “Ultimate Knife” – last holiday season. Retailing for $60, its 10,000-unit run sold out well before Christmas Day.
