Startup Indow Windows opened a manufacturing facility for their energy-efficient window inserts in  North Portland.

The company has developed inserts that prevent heat loss from inefficient old window and are far cheaper than new windows.

Led by Sam Pardue, co-founder of Portland-based photography product company Lensbaby, Indow Windows aims to eventually take the company to a national market but is initially focusing on Oregon, where Pardue estimates there are 650,000 residences with heat-leaking, single-paned windows.

“We can build LEED Platinum buildings from now until the end of time, but unless we address the problems with existing structures, we’re never going to solve the larger environmental issues,” Pardue said.
