Trump said during his press conference yesterday that he was responsible for Intel’s decision to open the factory. Intel says that is not true, the Oregonian reports. The Fab 42 factory has been in the works for years. Intel officials say they were waiting for demand to grow before opening.
Association of O&C Counties files suit against national monument designation
AOCC wants to overturn the expansion of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, Herald and News reports. The suit, filed Monday, argues former President Obama didn’t have the authority to include the 48,000 acres in Southern Oregon in the expansion. The suit asks the designation be vacated.
Bend takes NIMBY approach to affordable housing
Residents say the city needs more affordable housing but fight back when projects are proposed for their neighborhoods. The City Club of Central Oregon held a forum yesterday to discuss the problem. John Gilbert, head of Pacific Crest Affordable Housing, told attendees to get on board or a solution won’t be found, the Bend Bulletin reports. He says with community support, it’s possible Bend can compete for grant funding to boost the number of affordable housing projects.
Planning consultant says downtown Eugene in ‘crisis’
Eugene hired Project for Public Spaces to develop a plan for the downtown area. The consultant told city leaders the public perceives the downtown area as unsafe, an attitude that will prevent any attempts to add vibrancy to the area, the Register Guard reports. The consultant said homelessness in Eugene is at a “crisis level,” and warned she’s never seen a situation that dire.
PeaceHealth is cutting 330 jobs by April
PeaceHealth, based in Vancouver, is selling part of its lab to New Jersey’s Quest Diagnostics. As a result, about 330 jobs at the Oregon and Washington facilities will be cut, the Register Guard reports. As part of the sale, Quest will also manage lab work for 11 hospitals in the PeaceHealth system.
