Ninkasi faces DEQ fines for water monitoring


The Eugene brewery faces nearly $7,000 in fines.

‘In short, they didn’t do some monitoring of their stormwater discharge that they were required to under their permit,’ Sarah Wheeler, environmental law specialist for the [Department of Environmental Quality] in Portland said Monday.

The DEQ issued the fine earlier this month to Ninkasi Holding Co., which owns and operates the Eugene brewery. A permit between Ninkasi and the state requires the company to check stormwater for levels such as acidity, oil and lead.
