Unions oppose New Seasons Seattle store


Labor groups criticize the Portland-based grocer’s treatment of employees.

The groups criticized News Seasons’ working conditions, citing news articles about the grocer’s ‘anti-union climate’ and health and safety violations records.

Gerding Edlen, the Portland company developing the mixed-use retail and housing project, said Thursday ‘we do not have a deal with any particular anchor tenant at this time.

New Seasons announced a 20 percent increase to internal minimum wages in January.

‘We believe raising the minimum wage in Oregon is the right thing to do for our staff and our communities, to ensure everyone can thrive in the communities where they live and work,’ said New Seasons CEO Wendy Collie, in a statement.
