Amazon Prime customers can utilize its restaurant-delivery service, which started Tuesday.

It’s part of the company’s new Prime Now program.

In Portland, the service has signed on some popular options.

Participating Portland restaurants include Pok Pok, Sizzle Pie, Waffle Window, Seres Restaurant, Luc Lac, East India Co. Grill & Bar and Kim Jong Grillin’. To see all participating eateries, enter one of the following zip codes into the Prime Now mobile app.

For now, the service is free to Amazon Prime members, who pay an annual fee of $99 for unlimited two-day shipping included in online orders. It’s unclear how much delivery will cost after the promotion expires. A minimum order of $20 is required.

In a statement from Amazon, Gus Lopez, general manager of the retailer’s restaurant division, said Portland was chosen for the service because it has emerged as one of America’s “best food cities.”

Nick Zukin, of Mi Mero Mole, said the setup was too costly for his business.

Zukin is a longtime figure in Portland restaurant scene as co-founder and namesake of Kenny and Zuke’s Delicatessen. While he’s no longer involved with that business, Mi Mero Mole operates two guisado-style taco shops — one in Old Town Chinatown, one on Southeast Division Street.

Upon Amazon’s announcement that it would add restaurant delivery service to Portland this morning, Zukin declared on Twitter that it’s the “worst delivery service for restaurants,” urging owners to “just say no.” I caught up with Zukin by email to learn his perspective of the growing delivery service landscape.
