REGISTER-GUARD: Goats will help with landscaping at the Eugene Airport.

The airport hired the herd as an environmentally friendly alternative to weed clearing because it cannot use herbicides in a drainage ditch. Also, the steep-sloped ditch is dangerous to mow with machinery, Airport Director Tim Doll said.

The agile beasts, comfortable on hillsides, “are a perfect solution for the hard-to-reach places at the airport,” he said. “The goats will allow us to avoid using herbicides or operate our mowers on unsafe terrain.”
