Gov. Ted Kulongoski’s “Reset Cabinet” reported that something must be done to address the state’s budget vulnerabilities that have resulted from the financial crisis.

The cost of doing nothing will be program cuts and tax hikes, or a decade of deficits, said the task force, which the Governor appointed last fall to advise him on the state’s budget vulnerabilities.

“If we do not fundamentally change the services we provide and how they are delivered, the state will not be able to meet its responsibilities to our citizens,” Kulongoski said in accepting the update from his “Reset Cabinet.”

“Priorities must be re-examined in order to continue to support our schools, help families in need and keep our communities safe.”
