A $40 million floating drydock will arrive at the Columbia River this weekend, carrying components that will be assembled and put to work  by Vigor Industrial.

A $40 million floating drydock will arrive at the Columbia River this weekend, carrying components that will be assembled and put to work  by Vigor Industrial.

Drydocks are used by ship repair firms like Vigor to hold ships that are pulled from the water so maintenance can be done. The larger the drydock, the bigger the ships that the companies can repair. With the new drydock, Vigor hopes to work on larger ships, including cruise ships that pass by Oregon on their way to and from Alaska, said Frank Foti, Vigor’s chief executive.
