US News: A Tennessee judge ruled that a mother must change her son’s name from “Messiah” out of respect for Jesus Christ.
“The word Messiah is a title that has only been earned by one person, and that one person is Jesus Christ,” [the judge said].
According to the Social Security Administration, more than 700 babies were named Messiah in the U.S. last year. It was the fourth highest-rising name in SSA’s popularity rankings between 2011 and 2012 for males behind Major, Gael and Jase.
