Portland unemployment fell in April in step with the national average.

Unemployment fell from 7.8 percent to 7.5 percent — a mark that matches the national average — according to the monthly report from the Oregon Employment Department.

In all, Portland’s employment base is expanding at around 2 percent — “a pretty steady and respectable clip,” said Amy Vander Vliet, a regional labor economist.
