The University of Oregon has the highest-earning athletic department in the nation — for now.
The football team’s new training facility — gifted by Phil Knight — was counted in this year’s income statement, pushing it to the top of USA Today’s list.
From the Portland Business Journal:
The training facility has been appraised at $95 million and the university’s most recent financial report shows $105 million in donations to the football team in the most recent fiscal year, which ended last June. The facility previously was reported to cost around $68 million, but that figure appears low.
The athletic department’s resulting $196 million in revenue last year ranked No. 1 in 2014, well ahead of the University of Texas, which ranked No. 2 with $161 million in revenue. The University of Oregon’s athletic department had $110 million in expenses last year.
According to USA Today, Oregon State University received $63 million in revenue with $73 million in costs in its most-recent yearly statement.
