Salem anticipates stimulus projects


$7.3 million worth of stimulus projects will begin in Salem in the next few months.

Stimulus projects totaling $7.3 million are set to kick off in Salem within a few months.

The projects — which include upgrades like road paving, floodplain restoration and high-tech police equipment — have been a long time coming since President Obama first introduced the $787 billion stimulus plan last year.

“It’s nice to see projects that otherwise may not have been completed, finally coming to fruition,” said Kacey Duncan, an assistant to the Salem city manager/franchise administrator.

It’s taken a while to get the projects moving as the city worked with federal and state agencies, and a metropolitan planning organization, to get approval for funding.
