The Oregon Department of Transportation is in the process of buying two new train sets to keep Amtrak service running between Portland and the Willamette Valley.

The new trains could provide a boost to two new destination developments in Oregon City, which will be built by the train station.

Train service is an important tool not just for attracting businesses and development to Oregon City…but for retaining existing businesses. “For midsize firms looking at being here in Oregon City, that’s one more amenity, one more service they can offer to employees that will keep them in Oregon City,” [said Amber Hoveck, executive director of the Oregon City Chamber].

Dan Drentlaw, the city’s economic development manager, said The Cove’s developer, Pacific Property Search, committed to build a 220-apartment phase of the development, with site grading set to start this summer. Other phases, scheduled to start within the next four years, would add 200 condominiums and 40,000 square feet of office space.
