Amtrak announced a new schedule to improve train service through the Willamette Valley in 2014.

The passenger rail company and the Oregon Department of Transportation will replace its southbound early morning bus (6 a.m.) from Portland’s Union Station to Eugene with a train on week days. Meanwhile, Eugene riders heading north will be able to take a late-afternoon train to Portland for the first time.

“For Oregon, it’s a pretty big change,” said Kathy Holmes, an ODOT passenger rail coordinator. “You’ll actually be able to easily get down to Eugene in the morning and get back to Portland in the evening.”
