Intel, Ray-Ban team up to create computerized glasses

Not long after coming to an agreement with Google to power its Glass project, Intel agreed with the company that owns Ray-Ban, Oakley and Persol to create technology for eye-glasses.

Intel, which makes two-thirds of its revenue by selling chips for PCs and laptops, wants to get in on the next frontiers of computing technology after coming late to the market for smartphones and tablets.

Intel processors had been too power-hungry for the first generations of battery-powered mobile technology, so manufacturers chose alternatives – primarily customizable chips based on designs by rival ARM Holdings. But Intel is overhauling its lineup, building in cellular connectivity and adding more flexibility to balance computing power and energy efficiency.
