Michael Kaplan gets job after serving as acting director since August 2013.

He oversees a 110-person department with a $230.5 million budget for the 2013-2015. The energy department, established in 1975, carries out Oregon’s energy efficiency goals and administers a variety of tax incentive programs to encourage development of the renewable energy sector.

It also oversees the governor’s 10-year energy plan, the siting of power plants and other energy facilities in Oregon and serves as the state’s voice in matters related to the cleanup of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Eastern Washington.
