The Washington County-based laser tool manufacturer has plans to purchase Wuhan Topwin Optoelectronics Technology Co.

ESI said Wuhan makes tools designed for the Chinese market with applications in patterning, cutting printed circuit boards and precision welding. ESI chief executive Ed Grady said Wuhan brings complementary technology and expands the Oregon company’s presence in China, the world’s largest laser systems market.

The Wuhan deal calls on ESI to pay $9 million in cash, $4.5 million on stock over three years, and up to $4.5 million in additional shares if Wuhan’s business hits unspecified financial targets following the deal.
