The Oregon Coast Aquarium’s bond debt is now down to $10.9 million.

The bond payoffs are part of a plan set in motion in 2011 by CEO Carrie Lewis to patch up the aquarium’s leaky finances. The 1998 departure of Keiko, the killer whale made famous in the movie “Free Willy,” left the aquarium without a main attraction and ripped a giant hole in its balance sheet.

It subsequently defaulted on $13 million in bond debt in December 2010 when it missed part of an $83,820 payment.
