Meredith Cueto expects merchandise sales to exceed the $1.36 million posted at the Moda Center last season.

Sales of Blazers women’s apparel increased 23 percent last year. Cueto said in an interview Tuesday that the Blazers’ improved play contributed significantly to that increase during the 41 home games at the Moda Center. But the variety of items directed at women also increased. Coincidentally, sports apparel brands Nike, Adidas and Under Armour have also increased their attention to catering to the women’s market.

It’s a trend Cueto said she expects to continue for the 2014-15 season, which gets underway with the first home game Wednesday, Oct. 29 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
