While not the nation’s best — North Dakota businesses see the best rate by far of just 88 cents per $100 of payroll — Oregon is well above the majority of the nation. Employers in California, for example, pay a rate of nearly $3.50, while middle-of-the-road states pay about $1.85.
Since spearheading the national report in the mid-80s, Oregon’s workers’ comp premiums dropped steadily thanks to workers’ comp system reforms. Since the mid-90s, the report has shown Oregon with some of the most affordable premiums available.
