Eugene-based food processor Golden Temple says it will likely sell its cereal business, but continue its tea operation.

The possibility of an ownership change has Lane County – with a 10.9% unemployment rate – on edge, and a lawsuit involving Chief Executive Officer Kartar Khalsa could complicate any transaction.

Khalsa and several others chosen by Yogi Bhajan to oversee Golden Temple and other Sikh businesses and organizations after the Yogi died in 2004 are currently embroiled in a messy lawsuit in Multnomah Circuit Court.

A group of religious leaders in the Sikh community allege that Khalsa and the others grabbed control of the community’s organizations, including the profitable Golden Temple, and are acting in their own interests — not in the interest of the overall Sikh community.
