OHSU confirms identity of anonymous donor

Gert Boyle, the chairwoman of Columbia Sportswear, made the anonymous $100-million donation last month.

With Boyle’s gift, the university is now just $70 million away from triggering Phil and Penny Knight’s matching $500 million donation that the Nike cofounder promised a year ago. The Knight Cancer Challenge is intended to make the university’s Knight Cancer Institute among the top cancer research facilities in the country.

In 2007, Druker was named head of the OHSU’s cancer research center, later renamed the Knight Cancer Institute. He met Gert’s son, Tim Boyle, the Columbia CEO, shortly afterward for breakfast, and the topic of Druker’s alma mater, the University of California, San Diego came up.
