The two-month increase was the largest since November-December 2005, but the state’s unemployment rate remains unchanged at 6.9%.

The rapid growth over the past two months reflects an accelerating pace of economic expansion, state economists said in their latest monthly report. Oregon is adding jobs at a faster pace than the nation, growing 2.6 percent over the year compared with the U.S. growth rate of 1.7 percent, they said.

Oregon still lags behind the rest of the nation when it comes to getting back to pre­recession employment levels, however. That is because Oregon lost a larger share of jobs during the recession than the country as a whole and because its job growth was slower than the rest of the country early in the recovery, state economists said.
