Cisco has agreed to sell Jive’s business software, raising the Portland company’s stock up by 9%.

Jive has acknowledged that it has struggled to sell to big corporate clients, and various financial and trade media have reported the company is shopping itself. The Cisco partnership could give Jive access to Cisco’s roster of large customers without selling the business itself.

Cisco said it will market Jive’s software alongside two existing Cisco collaboration tools, one called WebEx and one called Jabber, a messaging service the company acquired in 2008. Cisco will kill one product line, WebEx Social, and replace it with Jive’s tools. The two companies said they will work together on developing new products.
