Job growth in capitol is up  2.6%; home prices are up 5.7%.

Nick Williams, public policy manager for the Salem Chamber of Commerce, said the city is seeing some development, such as the reopening of Courthouse Square downtown and the approval of the Boise Cascade development near Riverfront Park.

“That sent the signal that it’s OK to invest in Salem,” he said.

However, the driving force behind Salem’s recovery is small businesses and entrepreneurs, he said. They’re just now showing signs of growth and need a lot of support.
