C.E. John Inc. retreated from the Conway New Seasons apartment project currently under construction in Northwest Portland.

C.E. John emerged as a major mixed-use developer in Northwest Portland during the recession after the company moved to reinvent itself and hired veteran apartment developers Rob Hinnen and Tom DiChiara to develop projects such as the Conway redevelopment and the tony Franklin Ide, Benevento and Sawyer’s Row apartment projects.

In 2010, it moved to become a mixed-use developer in Northwest Portland, where it owned property but had not been an active developer.

“We’re transitioning for an evolving family,” said Jeff Thompson, a board member and a third generation member of the C.E. John family.
