A business-backed coalition asks governors to press on with Columbia River Crossing plans.
The Columbia River Crossing Coalition wrote a letter to the governors of Oregon and Washington, urging them to move forward with plans for the I-5 bridge.
The letter follows up a previous message from Portland and Vancouver city leaders, which supported the project but called the $3.55 billion plan “unacceptable.”
“We encourage you to consider the issues they raise and to act on those that may contribute meaningfully to the Project or local partnerships,” says the letter, signed by Bill Fromhold and Brian Gard, co-executive directors of the coalition.
“It is important to keep the Project moving forward according to its timetable, in order to create thousands of new jobs that are desperately needed as soon as possible, and to solve the serious economic, environmental and transportation problems caused by the overwhelmed I-5 bridge sooner rather than later,” the coalition wrote. “In addition, any delay jeopardizes essential federal funding.”
