Gov. Kitzhaber spoke at the Oregon Leadership Summit, saying that despite Oregon’s economic recovery, a generation of Oregonians face the prospect of lower living standards than their parents.

Oregon must change course, he said, and “try to stop the wage stagnation that’s really eroding the middle class.”

House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, said the goal to reduce poverty is ambitious, but said the whole state would benefit if the income gap narrows between those who are struggling and those who are well-off.
