Holiday shoppers have one fewer week between Thanksgiving and Christmas, yet retail analysts still say it will be a record shopping season.

They cite the economic recovery, increased consumer confidence and the growing prevalence of discounts, bargains and sales that entice consumers.

Sarah Shaoul, owner of Black Wagon, a North Portland children’s clothing boutique, said last week that many of her customers had already started holiday shopping.

“We’ve noticed a big change in the last week. We think the season is going to be strong,” she said, adding that she expects sales to be 20 percent higher than last year.
