Central Oregon’s golf industry has struggled since 2007, but experienced a modestly successful 2013 season.

“To me it seemed like an odd year,” says Wattenburger, the longest-tenured golf pro in the region with nearly 30 years at Juniper. “I never really felt that there was a reason for periods of time during the year that we did well and periods of time when we did not do well.”

Despite the uneven season, rounds played in all of Oregon were up 1.5 percent through September compared with the first nine months in 2012, according to the PGA of America’s monthly PerformanceTrak survey.
