A temporary increase of food stamp benefits as part of a recession stimulus package ends today. About 20% of Oregonians participate in the federal food stamp program.

A family of four could see food stamps drop by as much as $36 a month, bringing the maximum monthly benefit for that family to $632.

[Oregon program director Belit] Burke says these cuts can hit families hard, and over-burdened food pantries won’t be able pick up the slack.
