Portland Public Schools plans on adding 30 full-time teaching positions and 68 part-time classified employee positions this year.
Superintendent Carole Smith asked the board for direction in hiring additional employees, funded by areas where the district over-estimated costs or underestimated revenues such as funds from the local option levy.
One of the biggest components of Smith’s plan would be the addition of 30 teachers across the system to help balance enrollment among schools.
