Oregon legislators are returning to Salem for a one-day special session.

Gov. John Kitzhaber called the special session earlier this month to pass four measures that would reform the state’s Public Employee Retirement System and raise taxes, while directing the savings to K-12 schools and mental health programs. A fifth bill would prohibit all but one of Oregon’s counties from regulating genetically-modified plants.

Kitzhaber has been lobbying for the votes necessary to pass the entire package, and a deal looked likely earlier this month. But in a Facebook post Sunday, a critical Republican suggested the coalition was falling apart.
